About Us

The Gay Straight Alliance at UT Arlington was created to unify the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community with our straight allies. Our goals are to create a comfortable environment for all to share and learn from other’s experiences and also speak out and promote causes that compliment our own.

Be gone with the labels, the discrimination, and the hate. Through socialization and charitable efforts in and around our community, we hope to build a better understanding of each other as human-beings.

THIS GROUP IS OPEN TO EVERYONE OF ANY ORIENTATION

If you have any friends that are gay, lesbian, transsexual, whatever!… and would love to show your support for them this group is also for you.

The GSA @ UTA meets every Wednesday at Noon in the Upper University Center. We would LOVE for everyone and anyone that has the time to please attend. We’re also going to be working closer with our mates Homage and Safe Zone this year and the future to help unite the LGBT community on campus and build a stronger team and family. Our mission statement is clearly different, but our goal is all the same. PLEASE PLEASE stop by and lend a charitable hand and help us build our community.

WHAT WE DO

Our organization is geared to improving the quality of life for our members as well as others. We take part in school and community events and work to establish more of a presence for our people. We maintain an enjoyable social environment and have weekly meeting as well as sporadic on and off campus activities.

HOW TO JOIN

Joining is easy and discrete. Simply come to a meeting listed on our meeting schedule and introduce yourself. There is a $5 membership fee per semester. We ask that all members be participative in our movements. While meeting regular attendance is not required, it defeats the purpose of joining if you don’t involve yourself. We have weekly meetings and sporadic on and off campus activities. We also have a member forum with ongoing conversations that rely on member participation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

$5/semester and your time

I want to come to your meetings, however I am not out and I don’t want someone to ‘out’ me.
While we can never guarantee that other members will not out you, it is the group’s policy to respect privacy of visitors and members alike. What is said in our meeting should not leave our group. “Outing” is particularly prohibited. Member lists are not published.

Are bi-sexuals welcome? What about transgender and transsexuals? Straight people?

Is the group funded by the University?
No, we rely on the dues of our members.
